This beautiful Swallowtail Butterfly is
enjoying a lovely sip of nectar from some flowers. You can see its proboscis or tube-like mouthparts sticking down into the flower where the nectar is.
Nectar is a little bit like Kool-Aid® - it is sweet, sugar water with nutrients. And each type of flower has a
different flavor of nectar. While visiting flowers for nectar, the butterfly
also will get pollen stuck on its face and transfer it from one plant to the
next so it can produce seeds.
